The Government will offer former finance minister Dr Michael Cullen an SOE chairmanship after he announces his retirement from politics, it has been reported.

Newstalk ZB said Dr Cullen would announce his retirement today.

Political editor Barry Soper said the National-led government would offer Dr Cullen a significant chairmanship of a State Owned Enterprise.

Mr Soper said the SOE was likely to be in the energy field, as there were several chairmanships coming up this year.

Well I think most places are cutting jobs. Whether that means terminating contractors (who aren't in Business as usual roles anyway) or making permanent staff redundant who knows... and there is a huge diference which isn't reported accurately at the moment.

But I dont think NZPost cutting jobs is very relevant is it? Unless we're commenting that it's unfair for a chairperson to come into a well paid job while the minions may lose their's. Which I dont agree with.

The job loss comment was just an afterthought. Maybe he will be able to do something to save some jobs.
